Children and Young People

Counselling and psychotherapy explores feelings, thoughts and experiences. Children and Young People can find it hard to talk, therefore creative methods can be used to help children and young people make sense of their world and understand their feelings.

Therapy can help children and young people to build resilience and improve self-esteem, developing strategies to support them to find ways of coping when life feels difficult.

Children and Young People seek therapy for many different reasons and it can be difficult for parents to accept that their child is struggling – often blaming themselves or their parenting choices.  Counselling is a safe, confidential space for children and young people to share their worries and generally this would not be discussed with parents or guardians.  However, I would work with you to offer support throughout the process & share any concerns if I was concerned your child or young person was at risk of serious harm.

With the child or young person’s permission we may work together to explore any support that could be offered at home.

Counselling

It is important children and young people feel comfortable in the counselling environment, and depending on their age and stage of development we would discuss in an initial session the most appropriate place for counselling to take place.
